When it comes to job interviews, everyone thinks that the potential future employee has it the worst. Interviews are so stressing. The people of the company are there to test you and to judge you. They are there to either prove that you are not worthy of the position at all or that you are the best of the best. And even if you are the right person for the job, what happens when the anxiety kicks in? You will not be able to prove that you are the best and at the end, there goes another opportunity for a job.

Well, this is true in some cases but try to think about it like this. You have worked a lot to study, go through college and build your portfolio by adding various types of jobs. You already know that your CV attracted attention and it is what got you the interview in the first place. So during the interview, you only have to talk about the things you have already accomplished and been your professional self that you already know too well. Show them that you are aiming for a bright future and that you are the best for their company. Confidence is the key.

Now let’s talk about the one thing about a job interview that most people will not think about. The person conducting the interview. Most people believe that conducting a job interview is very, very easy. They believe that it is all about asking specific types of questions and according to the answer they will be able to determine whether the person in front of them is good enough for the job or not.

Have you ever taken the time to think about how much of a burden it is to be the judge in this occasion? If the interviewer is a person appointed by the head of the company, then that person is responsible to find the right employer for the job. And no there is no such a thing as a recipe for finding the right person. Interviewing people can be stressful. The interviewer must be ready to ask the right question, evaluate the potential employees and most importantly judge them correctly. And if that is not a stressful task then what it?

If you have been appointed by your employer to conduct interviews we can understand that you are most likely stressing out about bringing in the right people. You need to make this process as easy for you as possible so here are a few tips for you that will help you stay calm and focus on the important things during the interview.

Tip 1

Remember your position. Why were you chosen by your employee to do this job? An employee knows how important it is to hire the right people so they would not just appoint any random employee to conduct the interviews. Your opinion is trusted and your expertise on your field make you the right person for the ‘’job’’ keep that in mind as it will help you trust your judgment even more.

Tip 2

Prepare your questions. You are conducting the interview to hire one person for one very specific job. What is that job and what is it that you need to know about the future employee of that job? The CV is just the first phase. What is it that the CV of a person cannot tell you about them that is a requirement for the job? This is what you need to be answered before conducting the interview. Make sure that you will think about a pool of questions that will give you the answers you are looking for. And always make sure that you prepare these questions beforehand.

Tip 3

Watch out for the body language. You do need some technical expertise in some cases. When it comes to conducting job interviews you need to know a thing or two about body language. It can tell you a lot about a person. It can tell you if they are answering truthfully or not. If they have confidence and believe in themselves and their skills. A good CV is nothing if the person cannot support what they proclaim to be able to do. A person’s body language during the interview will be able to tell you a lot about that person so watch out for that.

Tip 4

Be as polite as possible. You might have the perfect candidate sitting across from you but the tension is not allowing them to show you that they are the best.  Wouldn’t it be a huge loss if you were to lose a good employee because you did not make them feel comfortable during your first meeting? Being polite will help the interviewee relax and will make your job in understanding them a lot easier.

Tip 5

Keep thorough notes. Apart from the CV in front of you and the general answers to your questions, you are certainly going to want to keep other notes as well. Did the person you were interviewing dress for the occasion? Were they polite enough? Do they understand what kind of a position they are applying for? These notes will not only help you make the right choice afterward but will help automatize, to a point, this process and make it a lot easier for you to conduct more interviews.

These five tips are more than enough to help you get ready to conduct interviews and help hire future employees. Whether you are just an employee responsible for the interviews or the business owner, following these tips will certainly make things a lot easier for you.
