Strategic Action Plan for Researcher Career Development 2026–2031
The Institute of Entrepreneurship Development (iED), within the framework of the SMART Researchers – Strategic Micro-Credentialing and Skills Recognition for a Dynamic ESRs Talent Ecosystem project, has developed its Strategic Action Plan (SAP) for Researcher Career Development 2026–2031.
The Strategic Action Plan provides a structured, institution-wide framework for planning, implementing, monitoring, and institutionalising career development measures for Early-Stage Researchers (ESRs).
Developed on the basis of the institutional HR Audit and Capacity Assessment, Researcher Survey findings, participatory consultations, and European research career frameworks, the SAP aims to strengthen iED’s HR systems, enhance researcher career development, and establish sustainable institutional support mechanisms.
The Strategic Action Plan is structured around four strategic pillars.
1. Ethics, Integrity, Gender & Open Science
Strengthening the implementation, accessibility and consistent application of institutional policies and ethical and integrity principles.
2. Assessment, Recruitment & Progression (OTM-R)
Strengthening and formalising recruitment and selection processes in line with Open, Transparent and Merit-based Recruitment principles.
3. Working Conditions & Practices
Strengthening employee feedback and monitoring mechanisms and organisational practices supporting employee well-being and the quality of the working environment.
4. Research Careers & Talent Development
Establishing and operationalising a Career Support Centre (CSC), developing structured ResearchComp-aligned and transversal skills training, and integrating career development support into institutional governance.
The SAP will be implemented progressively over the period 2026–2031, supporting iED’s transition towards more structured, transparent, and sustainable institutional systems for researcher career development.
