“Certification of the qualifications of youth workers in NGOs – road to greater recognition of  youth work”

The second meeting of the partners for the new YEU international project “Certification of the qualifications of youth workers in NGOs – road to greater recognition of youth work” was held between 28 and 29 June in Faro, Portugal. Representatives of all partner organizations were present at the meeting, with individuals joining from organizations and institutions from Greece, Portugal, Poland, Italy and Brussels.

Throughout the duration of the meetings, the partners presented the work that has been undertaken until now, including the dissemination actions and the visual identity of the project, as well as the development of dissemination materials (partners were given the chance to discuss the possibilities of developing dissemination and promotion materials and how best to go about this). In addition, the partners also discussed the logo of the projet, flyer, poster, banner and website to be developed and finalized. The website can be found at the following link http://youth-workers.eu  and it was presented by Tomasz Kusiot from the University of Economics of Krakow, Poland.

In addition, the “the state of art” of the project was also presented, with emphasizes given to the administrative challenges of the project, especially the reporting requirements of the Portuguese NA. The visibility event that took place at the European parliament and which was organized by AEGEE and YEU was also brought up and discussed as the event was highly successful and the high interest of the public was observed. It was agreed to use this event to kick off the idea of building a network that will advocate for the recognition of youth workers’ profession and the outcomes of the project in general.

Following the above discussions, the partners moved on to also discuss and present the outcomes and final draft of the youth workers’ qualification framework: “Definition of youth work”.

Finally, the discussion then moved on to the specific qualifications, the definition of youth work and the possible methodology and pilot phase of the project that will be soon finalized and should be implemented. The need for different levels of certification was emphasized while it was agreed that the methodology would verify these different levels.
