How can I write the perfect CV?

There is no the only correct answer to the question, how a perfect CV should look like but there definitely are the main rules how to create it and what to include. Here is the list of the main tips for the creation of an attractive CV.

  1. Provide a crisp and clear definition of the position you are looking for. It is one of the most important points of the CV. The more it corresponds to the position in the announcement, the higher are your chances to obtain this job. Don’t use such variants as “any position”, “specialist”, etc. as this wording doesn’t give the HR any idea what position you are looking for.
  2. Be laconic. Don’t write any novels in your CV. It should be concise and consist of only important and relevant information. Your CV must be a one-pager, maximum two pages. Don’t provide any unnecessary information and think twice before providing the links to your profiles in the social networks as they may do you bad.
  3. Your CV should be well-structured. It is always easier to read the text which is well-organized. Your CV should contain such main parts as Your contact information, Experience, Education and Skills with the main bullet points. Don’t make an essay out of your CV as it will not be readable. Don’t forget to keep the chronological order when listing your places of work and education. It is more comfortable when the last place of work goes first and then backwards. You may omit the experience you had which will not be relevant for the given position. Don’t lie in your CV as it can be easily revealed.
  4. Check the grammar and spelling. Your CV is your professional portrait. Looking at it the employer will conclude on your literacy and if the CV contains many grammar or spelling mistakes, it will be a great disadvantage for you.
  5. Add your photo. It is always a plus if you have a photo in your CV. Please, make sure that you are visible in the photo and that it is not a picture from your last party. It is preferable to add your portrait photo in a business style. The photo should show that you are a serious and pleasant person.
  6. CV formatting. It is better to choose one font for the document and only make the headers bold. Don’t make your CV multicolor or multiform as it is always hard to read the text like that. Your CV may look creative only if you apply for the positions of a Creative Director, Producer, Marketeer, etc. In all the other cases stick to a business style.
