Female entrepreneurship is rapidly growing all around the world. On a daily basis, women see this as an opportunity to build their own businesses and reach their full potential. Female entrepreneurship can have many benefits not just for the women but for the evolution of the local businesses as well.
Entrepreneurship helps empower women. Women who know that they are capable of doing great things in the business world can help inspire people all around the worlds. Inspiration plays a very important role in the evolution of businesses, especially among vulnerable groups.
Under this premise, the European Union in collaboration with the United Nations has launched a women empowerment programme with a budget of 8 million euros. The aim is to encourage the private sector to start expanding business opportunities as well as economic participation for women in seven Asian countries. Those countries include China, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Viet Nam, Thailand, and the Philippines.
The name of the programme is ‘’WeEmpower Asia’’. It launched on March 8th, 2019 and it will run for the next three years. The motto of the programme is ‘’When more women work, economies grow: European Union and UN Women partner to boost women’s economic right and opportunities in Asia’’.
For the next three years, women in these countries will use the 8 million euro funding to integrate gender concerns into business practices in the region. WeEmpower Asia will promote dialogue among women’s groups and the public and private sector so as to enable a business environment that empowers women; provide skills training for female entrepreneurs to engage with businesses, policy-makers, and decision-makers; and support companies to adopt the Women’s Empowerment Principles.
