IED Aims for KA2 Strategic Partnerships

The transnational projects that fall under the KA2 Strategic Partnerships sector of the Erasmus+ umbrella have been specifically designed to develop and share multiple innovative practices as well as promote cooperation, peer learning and exchanges of experiences in the field of education, training. and youth.

The organizations that wish to take part in the Erasmus+ Strategic partnerships should note that their proposals must be able to address all the horizontal priorities as well as the field-specific priorities in the following areas:

  • Higher Education
  • Vocational Education and training
  • School Education
  • Adult Education
  • Youth

Strategic Partnerships are divided into two equally important categories:

  • Partnerships supporting innovation
  • Partnerships for the exchange of Good Practices

There is more information to be found in the official Programme Guide!

Funding Opportunities in 2020

The opportunities provided under the Strategic Partnerships are covering a large variety of public, private and non-governmental organizations. The aim is to implement a wide range of activities that include the following:

  • Strengthening cooperation and networking between organizations,
  • Promoting the development, testing, and implementation of innovative practices,
  • Promoting the recognition and validation of knowledge, skills, and competences,
  • Promoting cooperation between regional authorities to develop new systems for education, training, and youth,
  • Supporting learners with disabilities and special needs and ease their transition to the labor market,
  • Supporting education and training professionals to promote equity, diversity, and inclusion in learning,
  • Promoting integration of newly arrived migrants and raising awareness about the refugee crisis in Europe
  • Promoting entrepreneurship and active citizenship among young people.

Projects under the Strategic Partnerships can vary in size and activities. It all depends on the objective of the project, the organizations involved in the implementation, the impact that the project is expected to have, whether short or long-term and a plethora of other elements that differentiate every time.

Taking into consideration the scope of the project’s objectives, we notice that the project offers opportunities to pupils, students, learners, and staff. These opportunities focus on learning, training and teaching abroad, insofar as these transnational teaching, training and learning activities contribute to the achievement of the project’s objectives.

How it works

The most essential detail of the Programme is that, organizations that are thinking about applying need to be stationed in a Programme Country. The application must be lead by an organization stationed in a programme country and it should involve at least three organizations from different Programme Countries.

The only exception in this equation is in the field of School Education and Youth. In this case, the application can involve at least two organizations from different Programme Countries and not three. Partnerships in these fields can also choose to apply for specific formats of “School Exchange Partnerships” and “Transnational Youth Initiatives“. A simpler application process and a slightly modified set of rules apply for these special formats.

There is no limit to the number of organizations that will be taking part in an application, as long as they are all stationed in Programme countries. Applications may also include organizations from Partner Countries as long as their addition to the project can bring an essential added value to it! Higher

Education Institutions established in Programme Countries must also hold a valid Erasmus Charter for Higher Education.

Other Important Information

Strategic Partnerships can have different durations depending on the field:

  • Higher education: between 24 and 36 months
  • Adult education, school education, and vocational education and training: between 12 and 36 months
  • Youth: between 6 and 36 months

Grants for projects are generally capped at € 150,000 per year. Grants for the specific format “School Exchange Partnerships” are capped at € 99,000 per year.
