A few words about the project:

The European Union concludes that social enterprises combine societal goals with the entrepreneurial spirit. These organizations focus on completing wider social, environmental or community objectives. The EU aims to create a favorable financial, administrative and legal environment for these enterprises so that they can operate on an equal footing with other types of enterprises in the same sector. Social entrepreneurship is not widely developed across the greatest part of Europe, and the project aims to change that.

The main problem is the migration of people from rural districts to urban areas, or abroad searching for a job. That results in lower living standards and the depopulation of rural areas. Migration to urban areas leads to unemployment, poverty and alienation and, in some cases, to anti-social behaviors or exploitation.

The “RURAL TREASURES – Social entrepreneurship-the heart of rural development ” project aims to promote the development of rural areas through the education of people in business issues, as well as motivate them to develop a social business using the cultural, social and environmental resources available in their areas of residence.

Here are some of the project’s other goals:

  • Increase people’s awareness of social entrepreneurship through the international exchange of good practices and success stories
  • Enhance the development of creativity and mind flexibility in the field of entrepreneurship in order to promote well – being in the rural regions where they live
  • Foster the use the social, environmental and cultural resources
