Entrepreneurship and migration

migrant entrepreneur

In more than one case, migrants face discrimination when trying to enter the labor market. It is a very common phenomenon for people not to trust migrants. People tend not to trust what they do not know and in the European area, it is a very common phenomenon to face discrimination as a migrant.

However, the labor market is indeed a great way to secure migrant integration. This is why teaching entrepreneurship to migrants might be the solution they are looking for. Entrepreneurship enables people to build their own ideas and try to make sure that, they will be able to start building their own career and make their dreams come true.

In the case of migrants, entrepreneurship is also a very efficient way to help them build a new life in a new county. Social inclusion is utterly connected to the labor market and migrants can have a great use for it. By their participation in the labor market and in the Small and Medium Enterprise sector, they add value to the hosting societies and the communities they are involved. For these reasons and in order to enhance this value, the YOU-ME project aims at providing information, training, and support to young migrants coming from war-torn countries, in order to help them establish their own business. The idea is to share, calibrate and adapt the best practices and services that each partner already has implemented, modelizing a new approach/set of tools, with high European added value and replicable, and testing them.

Objectives

The project aims to provide not only knowledge but also the necessary tools to those young migrants who wish to take on entrepreneurial activity. More specifically, through the e-training platform, the users will be able to:

  • locate organizations that help out migrants with the project’s interactive map
  • estimate their entrepreneurial potential through the self-assessment tool and get a certificate that they can use as an addendum to their CV, but also for their own personal archive
  • complete the training course that provides ample information to entrepreneurial novices regarding basic entrepreneurship issues
  • participate in the mentorship programme of the project and learn firsthand useful information from established entrepreneurs All the tools are available in the https://youme-project.eu/platform/, where the user can create a free account. Through these tools, the YOU-ME project seeks to actively help and support young migrants looking to start their entrepreneurial endeavor.
