The Institute of Entrepreneurship Development (iED) is driving impactful collaborations as part of the European project FoodChase – Food Supply-Chain Ecosystems for Sustainability. These partnerships, focused on sustainable food systems and innovation, will soon be officially presented on the project website: https://foodchase.eu.
As an early highlight, we are proud to showcase a key initiative by FoodOxys, demonstrating the crucial role of scientific validation in advancing agri-food innovation and sustainability.
Promoting Sustainable Food Chains through Scientific Validation: The FoodOxys–ANETXA Collaboration
Reinforcing its mission toward sustainable development and evidence-based food innovation, FoodOxys has joined forces with ANETXA S.A. (Development Agency of Chalkidiki) to evaluate the nutritional properties of a locally produced goat cheese. The goal is to enable health claim certification, enhancing the product’s marketability and visibility.
This initiative supports the FoodChase project’s core objectives by connecting scientific research, local production, and educational innovation to improve sustainability across the agri-food value chain.
A comprehensive qualitative and quantitative nutritional analysis was conducted on cheese samples from the Chalkidiki region. In compliance with Regulation (EU) 432/2012, the study confirmed the presence of nutrients that allow the following approved health claims:
- Riboflavin (Vitamin B2): Supports normal nervous system function and vision maintenance
- Calcium: Contributes to normal muscle function and the health of teeth and bones
- Phosphorus: Aids in normal energy metabolism
- Zinc: Supports immune system function, cognitive health, and skin maintenance
How This Aligns with FoodChase Goals
This collaboration offers a real-world example of how FoodChase promotes sustainable food supply chains by:
- Bridging science and local production: Enhancing recognition and value of regional agri-food products at both national and European levels
- Supporting small producers and local stakeholders: Providing innovative, science-backed services that enable product differentiation and sustainable food innovation
