The practice of trainees’ attraction gains its popularity. More and more companies want to use trainees as “additional hands” in various projects as well as a new blood which may introduce innovative approaches and solutions. Usually, the companies keep the brightest trainees and make them a part of their team. Let’s analyse the innovative ways of recruiting trainees which are successfully used by the EU SMEs.
Internship
By all means, the most popular are trainee internships. The companies announce a competition among the university graduates and choose only the best of them to take part in their internship, during which they work in various departments, acquire new skills and knowledge, help with the projects, etc. The best performing ones are usually hired after the internship is over. This approach helps the companies to attract the most promising students and to save money on their work as they may have a non-paid internship or get little money for their work.
Trainees attract trainees
A new approach is to make ambassadors out of the trainees who work for the company. Those should be highly loyal representatives and they have to inspire the students to become a part of the company they work for. These ambassadors visit the universities which are specialized in their sphere of work and communicate with the students. They present the company, describe the advantages of work for it and agitate to come to work in it. Such ambassadors may also be seen at work fairs and exhibitions, career days.
Cooperation with vocational schools
Some companies sign the agreements with vocational schools and, thus, bread their future professionals. Ford was, probably, the first to use this method. In such a way the company stimulates the development of a tailor-made curriculum which corresponds to their real needs. As a result, the students acquire applicable skills and they are sure about their professional future as the company is obliged to hire them after the graduation.
Networks
Companies start to reach various networks and organizations in order to build the lacking contacts with the youth. These associations represent their potential trainees. When communicating with the representatives of those networks, the companies may choose the best of them to become a part of their team. In such a way, they facilitate the process of recruiting as they have a ready-to-use pool of the candidates for their vacancies.
These are only few innovative methods of recruiting trainees. You may invent your own ones or choose some of the mentioned above.
