International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination

Today is the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, which is observed annually on March 21st.  This day was first established in 1966 after the occurrence of a tragic event – the massacre of young students that were calmly protesting against apartheid laws which were in place by the government of South Africa.  Since then, the United Nations has declared this day as an effort to abolish racial discrimination of any form.
