Refitting Machine: Experts Program Toolkit

Machine-learning

REFITTING MACHINE the project

In the constantly changing labour market, in which advanced digital skills, practices of circular economy, and innovation in the fields of business and education are necessary for ensuring growth and sustainability, the project Refitting Machine aims at providing knowledge and skills on these topics in order to facilitate employment. As its title suggest, the project’s core value is the repairing of machinery. Around this, it will produce three Intellectual Outputs (Experts Programme Toolkit, ICT Tool for Competence Assessment and Gamified E-Learning Platform).

MACHINERY REVAMPING

For quite a lot of people recycling is synonym to packaging, to food waste and to materials like paper, glass, and tin. But in the fields of manufacturing, industrial engineering and technology, to recycle means to revamp. Revamping is the technique that gives new and improved form to industrial machinery. Machinery revamping is all about putting machines to work again and in order to do so, specific skills and knowledge are required. The first Intellectual Output of the Refitting Machine, the Experts Programme Toolkit, focuses on creating training material that provides the project’s target groups with the knowledge and skills needed to modernize existing machineries in order to make them “smart”, easily adapting to today’s requirements that the manufacturing industry poses.

EXPERTS PROGRAMME TOOLKIT

For engineers and non-engineers, for people who have lost their jobs and need to update their skills, recent graduates in scientific and technological disciplines, long-term unemployed, Trainers, VET organizations, local authorities, companies, employment centers, policy makers, professional researchers, the Experts Programme Toolkit will provide educational material on the following units:

Design and Engineering of simple parts needed for machinery revamping, equipping learners with the basic knowledge needed to design simple parts for machinery revamping and to reuse functional parts of machines;

3D printing for production of the parts needed for machinery revamping, introducing the theme of the 3D printer as a tool not yet fully exploited and explaining how 3D printing can be used for machinery revamping.

Open source hardware relevant for machinery revamping, presenting and discussing the existing open source hardware that is relevant for machinery revamping

Open source software relevant for machinery revamping, presenting and discussing open source software applications used in upgrading equipment

Design of software interfaces, equipping learners with the basic principles in designing user interfaces

Economic benefits of machinery revamping, presenting and discussing the economic benefits that result from machinery revamping

Social benefits of machinery revamping, distinguishing between the benefits of revamping machines compared to buying new ones.

Environmental benefits of machinery revamping, equipping learners with basic knowledge to identify and assess the environmental benefits of machinery revamping instead of buying new ones.
