Training School 4: Social Activism

Venue: University of the West of England, Bristol, UK

Dates 17-19th October, 2016 (3 days)

This Training School will cover the following topics, using a workshop format.

  • What IS social activism?
  • What works best? Is there an evidence base for social activism techniques?
  • Case examples (Iceland; Argentina; Europe; UK)
  • Working with business leaders
  • Working with the media
  • Developing a social activism strategy

There are 15 funded places available for this Training School. In allocating places we will aim for:

  • An equitable distribution between the 5 COST Action Working Groups
  • An equitable balance of researchers and practitioners
  • A balance of ECRs and those engaging in lifelong learning
  • An equitable geographical distribution of members

For those participating in the training school, the following financial support and administrative rules on Social Activism apply:

  • The reimbursement rate per day is EUR 160 maximum
  • Up to EUR 300 may be allocated for the travel expenses (depends on Domestic, near countries, far countries)
  • A maximum grant of EUR 1 500 can be awarded to any one person
  • Grant for Trainees can vary depending on the country of the Trainees (e.g. Domestic, near countries, far countries)
  • Prior the Training School, the trainees must register on e-COST: https://e-services.cost.eu.
  • No advance payments are available: All costs will be reimbursed after the event

Additional self-funding places are available at a cost of £150 (+ travel & accommodation costs) per person for Social Activism

COST Action IS1210 Appearance Matters Final Conference

Venue: Ljubljana, Slovenia

Date: April 20-22nd, 2017.

We will use this event to showcase the work of the Task Groups, invited keynotes and hopefully to attract external delegates too.  We are budgeting for 90 funded places and hope the majority of the membership will be able to attend. Places for the conference are based upon country and institutional representations. For external delegates (Non-Cost members), the cost for attending the conference will be nominal plus travel and accommodation.
