This year’s Startup Europe Week Larissa 2023, focused on the topic of “Do’s & Don’t’s for a Successful Startup,” was organized by the Institute for Entrepreneurship Development iED and the Association of Thessaly Businesses and Industries, with the support of the PRAXI Network and the Finance Club UoM of the University of Macedonia. The event was successfully completed online on Wednesday, March 15th, marking the 8th consecutive year of promoting tools and support mechanisms for startup entrepreneurship and sharing good practices.
The event began with a short video greeting by Mariya Gabriel, Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, followed by welcoming speeches from Mr Vassilios Sagris, Vice President of STHEV, and Mr Thodoris Alexandrou, Director General of iED. Several speakers addressed the attendees, including Elli Diakanastasi, Executive Advisor of Elevate Greece S.A., who discussed Elevate Greece’s actions to build the ecosystem and support startups through funding, and Mr Efstratios Spitieris, Technology Transfer Consultant of the PRAXI NETWORK, who discussed various ways PRAXI NETWORK supports startups.
Mr Kostas Troulos, Senior Advisor of the Industry, Development, Technology & Innovation Sector at SEV, presented the actions for innovation development in Greece and introduced the new online platform IG@WORK that connects talent with industries and technology firms. Ms Theodora Tsokanaki, Communication Manager of Thinc, spoke about how incubators support young teams that wish to implement their business ideas through an ongoing mentoring program.
The event concluded with young entrepreneurs sharing their experiences and the “Do’s & Don’ts” they followed to develop their startups. Athanasios Fouloulis, Founder of EGNITE, presented his journey through developing the MECANO application, a tool for the digital transition of any engineer. Ms Zoe Scaperda, Chief Scientific Officer at FoodOxys, presented the University of Thessaly spinoff responsible for controlling agri-food products. Mr Petros Papadopoulos, Co-Founder & CTO of Pi tech, a company providing AR/VR application services for museums, exhibitions, guided tours, schools, and universities, shared his experiences. Finally, Mr Christodoulos Vilaras from MΩLY, a herb extraction and processing business, provided advice based on his experience in the startup space.
Startup Europe Week will continue its actions through its events at a European level and renews its official date for 2024.
