Every year, the European Union sets priorities for all the important matter that need to be taken care of. Safety, on every level, is always one of those priorities. Food safety is considered right on the top. Not knowing whether the food on your plate is safe or not, can certainly create a lot of problems. This is why the EU has made sure that the Horizon 2020 will include calls like ‘’Innovative and citizen-driven food system approaches in cities’’.
This call has inspired the IED to create an innovative idea regarding food security. In particular, the IED proposes the development of Living Labs that will act differently within the cities, and that will establish a series of food system approaches, especially in a circular economy. The Living Labs will promote teamwork, which can act as a blockchain in terms of food quality.
Various activities will be taking place for the implementation of this idea. In particular, the activities proposed by the IED are the following:
- Identification of innovative business models that are developing and have significant potential to create added value.
- Identification of models that foster a more sustainable mobilization of resources, improve cooperation between actors along the value chain and across traditional and developing sectors.
- Cooperation to boost scaling up and cross-border adoption of the new business model.
- Establishment of food security standards.
The IED pays extra attention to this important matter. Safety is mandatory and the Institute of Entrepreneurship Development works to build a strong consortium of partners that will be able to implement these ideas.
