Empowering self-employability potentials as a solution to fight unemployment

When it comes to unemployment, the group that is usually the one mentioned as the most plagued in youth. Young men and women all around Europe struggle on a daily basis, trying to find employment in order to gain at least the minimum wage. And unfortunately, they are not the only ones.

After the economic crisis hit hard, countless men and women lost their jobs. Adults over the age of 20, 30, 40 or even 50. Those people are now unemployed and in most cases unable to find employment again. There are not many solutions to this problem. But the ones that do exist appear to be very promising.

A clear result for people who are not able to find employment on their own is self-employability. Being self-employed is a big risk but it is certainly a much better option than being unemployed in general. However, if one does not have the skills and competencies needed to set up their own business, the entire endeavour is bound to fail.

Finding yourself without a job is a difficult situation. One for which you must be prepared for, beforehand. Thinking about self-employment is not just about a job that will give you a salary. It is about doing what you love the most. It is about understanding the true meaning of entrepreneurship. It is about training yourself to acquire the skills you need in order to set up your own business and the competencies that will help you keep the company going, leading it all the way to a bright future.

Training, although it might sound difficult and time-consuming, is certainly not! With the right mindset, the right trainer and of course the right courses, learning about all the possibilities of self-employment and acquiring the skills and competencies needed in order to build your own business can be a fun and creative experience. It all has to do with the means that you will be using to achieve the results that you want.

The European Union has already taken into account the importance of training for self-employment. Therefore, over the past few years more and more projects are being implemented, focused on teaching and training people in order to provide them with new skills and competencies towards self-employability. Projects like UINNO provide people with training packages in a fully digital format based on eLearning pedagogies, work-based online learning, case studies, real market scenarios, and collaboration. These packages, for example, have been qualified by the European Union.

For anyone who wants to become self-employed, there is always a way. If you are persistent enough and ready to give it all you’ve got, you will soon be out of the unemployment market and into the self-employment pool. Take some time to check out all of your options. Find ways to train yourselves and get the knowledge needed to start something new. Afterall  Self-employability is the strongest solution to unemployment!
