What are the Cultural Incubators and Why do we Need Them?

Why do we need cultural incubators for

The pandemic and its consequences in the art world highlighted the urgency for support to the cultural and creative industries (CCI). Cultural and creative incubators can really strengthen creatives and help them launch their ventures.

Let’s see what cultural incubators are, and how some examples of cultural incubators help creatives.

What cultural incubators do?

Creative and cultural incubators operate as reference points for creatives to explore and expand on the dimensions of art, culture and entrepreneurship. The purpose of these incubators is to stimulate their members by offering them opportunities to learn, create, and grow. However, such initiatives are not limited to just these three dimensions. Incubators can sustainably grow various artistic, economic and social aspects.

Here are 4 examples of incubators that aim to support representatives of the cultural and creative sectors within Europe:

  1. Since 1994, the European Network of Cultural Centers connects the pertinent centres with social dimensions in their activity to trigger dialogues and cooperation.
  2. Subtopia’s cultural incubators, Klump, provide workspaces, equipment and training, among other benefits, to support its members.
  3. TD Incubator for Creative Entrepreneurship help music creators succeed in their entrepreneurial pursuits, through the provision of pertinent knowledge and tools.
  4. The BAI Arts Incubator addresses artists, inventors, innovators and researchers that want to become entrepreneurial with their own ideas.

A proposed solution to support the sector by the CUBE project

The severe impact of the pandemic on the creative industry left many creatives hanging. For this reason, the CUBE Erasmus+ project came up with an idea to provide them with an alternative solution they could use to improve their situation.

Until the creative industry is back on its feet, CUBE wants to attract creatives and teach them how to become entrepreneurs.

Additionally, CUBE will not only teach the essentials of entrepreneurial thinking but will also create a cultural incubator. This incubator will provide additional guidance to artists to make their entrepreneurial ideas a reality. Essentially, the project will build a new generation of creative entrepreneurs.

With all the difficulties artists encountered in the past two years in the creative sector, now is the perfect time for artists to grow their art into something bigger. Their cultural impact will be even more significant, and they can build something monetizable to support themselves.
