Webdoc – Migrant Diaries: Narration for Raising Awareness

Achieving social integration is a crucial parameter for social cohesion and the overall goal of sustainable development. Therefore, we refer to societies that are inclusive; contexts that take action against poverty and, maintain balance among their members at large.

IntegrAction: Action for socio-economic integration of refugees and asylum seekers” is a project working on the spectrum of this goal, with a primary focus on migrants’ integration.

The 3rd intellectual output of the project, the “Webdoc – Migrant Diaries”, aims to fulfill the mission of contributing to the social integration process of immigrants and social cohesion at large.

The “Webdoc – Migrant Diaries” Output

IntegrAction is an Erasmus+ project aiming to contribute to the socio-economic integration of refugees and asylum seekers. In particular, the consortium focuses its activities on the local contexts of the reception countries.

In this frame, the consortium developed the “Webdoc – Migrant Diaries” output, to provide immigrants with an instrument that will allow them to tell their life story. The purpose of this result is to contribute to the combat of common cliché and stereotypes. Furthermore, the main reason is to provide new and easy digital instruments, for diversity purposes.

Thus, “Webdoc – Migrant Diaries” is an interactive multimedia product designed for Internet use that allows users to become active participants in content creation. Moreover, the web documentary does not abide by the approach of linear narrative. Specifically, users move through the story via clusters of information to increase their commitment.

In addition, the product encompasses integrated graphics; audio and video; text; infographics; hyperlinks, among others.

The expected impacts

The web documentary will be using migrants’ stories with the intention to:

  • Improve immigrants’ social skills.
  • Teamwork.
  • Relationship building.
  • Digital skills improvement.
  • Integration process strengthening.
  • Change of behavior towards refugees.
  • Improve knowledge regarding diverse cultures.
  • Stimulate values of equity; social cohesion; and active citizenship in local communities.

With the delivery of “Webdoc – Migrant Diaries” the IntegrAction consortium aims to enhance the critical understanding of local communities in relation to migration issues and raise awareness regarding the complexity of integration processes.
