Situating Europe into the global context: intercultural relations and their effects

Nowadays, the European society has faced the problems which should be solved not only on the regional level but on the pan-European as well. A huge wave of immigrants from Asia and Africa, as well as their integration into the European society, international conflicts, the cases of racism, etc. are the issues which should be solved as soon as possible as they have a negative impact on the European society, economy and well-being. As the result of this situation, the neo-fascist organizations become more and more popular which influences the European regional policy and, in the future, may have even a greater impact.

The person cannot live isolated. The same is the situation with the world cultures. Globalization even fosters the interactions between the people and the cultures. The people are open for everything which is new as well as for the new cultures and traditions. At the same time, they are ready to share their experience with others.

Nowadays, intercultural relations development takes place in the context of tourism, sport, personal contacts, etc. Moreover, the political and economic changes in the world have led to massive migration of people, their mixing and other interactions. As the result, more and more people overcome the cultural barriers and have to assimilate with the other cultures, which partly erases cultural differences. People start to celebrate the holidays of other countries, change their food preferences, etc. The interactions between people of different cultures represent the process of intercultural communication and relations. Such programs and initiatives as Work Programme 2016-2017 Europe in a changing world – Inclusive, Innovative and Reflective Societies help to mitigate the process of intercultural relations and assimilation of the immigrants. They also help to solve a list of the social problems connected with migration and cultural interactions.

All in all, people should be more open-minded and tolerant towards others in order to prevent various social problems and make it more comfortable to the representatives of different cultures to live in one country. In the era of globalization, people should treat all the nationalities equally and there should not be any traces of racism and religious issues. The global task which is put in front of the European Union is to build the international society with equal right and possibilities for the representatives of all the cultures, nationalities and confessions.
