Food security is a flexible concept as reflected in the many attempts at definition in research and policy usage. Food security exists when all, at all times, have access to, and can afford enough nutritious and culturally appropriate food of their preference. Food security requires a healthy and sustainable food system which comprises several different components, including food access, distribution of food, the stability of the food supply, and the use of food. A number of unique challenges and physical and economic barriers affect food security.
