Education has moved on from its old and outdated models, as students, no matter their age, express preference for diverse techniques and methods of leaning and studying, while teachers have also realized the benefits of new and alternative methods of teaching. The latter, being themselves part of the change brought by technological evolution, have become aware of the fact that they need to adapt and enhance their digital skills. As a result, teaching is now interactive, in accordance with the profile and needs of the students as well as their strengths and weaknesses and highlights active participation. Therefore, students develop sense of independence and will for personal advancement.
The rationale on which the “Triple E-dge: Entrepreneurship, employability and enterprising in a digital and gaming environment” has been based is this exact idea; in other words, education needs to diversify in order to be more effective. More specifically, it addresses the mismatch between the demand for digital skills and the offer by the youth in the world of enterprise. For that purpose, after the required digital skills have been identified and brought in relevance with the labour market, the project aims to create four serious games that will boost these skills. Through serious games, the learners can receive knowledge in an unconventional way which makes the learning process much more interesting and engaging. Also, these skills acquired by the games will be also recognized by an open badges system, in order to make sure that this knowledge, brought by informal and non-formal means, can be used for professional reasons.
The project Triple E-dge will last three years, while the first partner meeting took place in Bruges, Belgium on November 8th and 9th. The Institute of Entrepreneurship Development (iED) will cooperate with partners from England, Belgium and the Netherlands towards the realization of the projects aims and goals. The next meeting will be next April in Plymouth.
